About the project

SMI Recovery supports data recovery workflows for the SMI SM2258XT controller. EasyTool exports are spread across multiple DataBank directories. The software reads their indexes and data files, organizing the fragments into a read-only virtual disk that recovery tools can scan for file systems and files.

The product targets Windows x64, with a command-line interface supporting SM2258XT EasyTool 1.x and 2.x export formats. It works with existing recovery exports, does not write to the original SSD, and does not perform file-system repair.

  1. Read-only virtual disk

    Map data from multiple DataBank directories into a logical disk and connect it to a recovery workflow through read-only iSCSI.

  2. Recovery data diagnostics

    Inspect indexes, duplicate LBAs, missing ranges, and partition hints, with targeted sector reads and index comparison.

  3. Image export

    Export raw or sparse images from the same logical mapping for use with offline recovery tools.

Connect recovery exports to your tools

Read-only iSCSI is the primary interface. Recovery software reads sectors through an iSCSI disk without first generating a full-disk image. The virtual disk uses the indexes to locate content in each BankImage.bin file and rejects write requests. Compiled indexes and a block cache reduce repeated index work and disk access.

Inspect what the recovery data contains

Diagnostics inspect duplicate LBAs, missing ranges, partition signatures, and NTFS boot-sector hints. Index summaries, comparisons between two export sets, and targeted LBA reads help locate data and gaps. Missing sectors are represented by zeros; those zeros are fill data, not recovered content.

Export an image for offline use

For a standalone image, export a raw file from the same logical mapping or use sparse mode to skip missing and all-zero ranges. Duplicate LBAs can explicitly keep the first record, keep the last, or raise an error. An export plan shows the target capacity and write ranges before export. Source recovery data remains read-only.
